What drew us to Rankin and McKenzie was the ability to onboard talent like Phil Sandy in a fractional model. As a small business owner, it is always challenging to time and deploy capital effectively for new hires, particularly those in overhead positions. The fractional model allowed us to interview and select a CFO well-versed in our industry, challenges, and financial model and ultimately swing way above our weight class.

Phil Sandy is an accomplished and highly technical finance and operations executive with over 30 years of professional experience.  In addition to holding the position of Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Sandy has also held the position of Chief Operating Officer.  His career includes Big Four accounting, multi-national companies, and not-for-profit organizations.  Mr. Sandy has wide-ranging leadership experience to include finance, human resources, information technology, administration, consulting, customer support, software development, and pre-sales. Mr. Sandy is extremely knowledgeable with ERP systems and helped pioneer the transition of legacy ERP systems into new cloud-based technology.  In 2003, Mr. Sandy was instrumental in the design, development, and launch of Aperek’s successful cloud-based ERP for acute care hospital systems.

Mr. Sandy holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in accounting and a minor in computer science.  He is a Certified Public Accountant (out of state license) and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  Mr. Sandy was a 2014 recipient of the Triangle Business Journal CFO of the Year award and is a veteran of the United States Air Force.

  • 2016 – 2018, COO, Global Software, LLC
    Global Software was a Private Equity backed financial report writing and analytics software and services company.  Mr. Sandy was the executive leader in the Raleigh corporate headquarters and led the successful sale to a Top 50 Private Equity firm.
  • 2014 – 2016, VP Customer Operations, Premier, Inc.
    Premier, Inc. is a publicly traded healthcare improvement and technology company.  Mr. Sandy led the ERP implementation and support teams for large hospital systems.
  • 2000 – 2014, CFO, Aperek, Inc. (formerly MediClick, Inc.)
    Aperek was a SaaS (Software as a Service) ERP software and services company for the healthcare industry.  Mr. Sandy was instrumental in the funding, incubation, and growth of the company and to the successful sale to Premier, Inc.  Mr. Sandy was also responsible for the design and launch of the companies ERP financial modules in 2003.
  • 1994 – 2000, CFO, Global Software, Inc.
    Global Software was an ERP software and services company serving multiple industries.   Mr. Sandy started his employment with Global Software as the Controller and was later promoted to CFO.  Mr. Sandy was involved with several company startups, acquisitions, and spinoffs during his tenure at Global Software.  Mr. Sandy was also the original designer of Global’s award winning Spreadsheet Server product that launched the company into the financial reporting and analytics business.
  • 1990 – 1994, Assistant Controller, Post Software International
    Post Software International was a computer hardware and software company for the retail industry.  Mr. Sandy started his employment as Accounting Manager and was subsequently promoted to Director of Budgeting/Planning and then to Assistant Controller.
