Alex Duhon, CPA

Alexandra Duhon (Alex) has over 18 years of accounting experience in both the public accounting and the private sector. She started her career in public accounting as an auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers and then spent the last 16 years in the private sector achieving progressive responsibility which included six years of senior financial management experience.

Ms. Duhon’s industry experience includes distribution, manufacturing, media, not-for-profit, food and hospitality, retail, and health services. She has worked with varying sizes of businesses including small, middle market, and global organizations. Current clients include NC State Bar and Arosa+LivHOME and Children’s Flight of Hope.

Ms. Duhon is a problem solver and has a particular strength in streamlining accounting operations, developing financial reports, budgeting and forecasting, cash management, and involvement in all aspects of financial management. She recognizes the importance of timely and accurate financial reporting to provide owners and managers the information they need to make good and timely business decisions. She strives to design operating metrics, budgets and cash forecasts to effectively plan and measure performance.

A licensed CPA, she earned both a Master of Accounting and Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from North Carolina State University. She has also been issued the Not-for-Profit Certificate I from the AICPA, which requires the completion of 40 hours of continuing professional education specific to nonprofit financial reporting, auditing, governance, and tax compliance.

Professional Career Highlights:

  • Prior to joining Rankin McKenzie, Ms. Duhon was the CFO for a large, local Country Club with 100 employees. Ms. Duhon had the primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the Club. She also had the primary day-to-day responsibility for all human resource, payroll, and benefits activities. She maintained positive relationships with Club and Board members, vendors, bankers, licensing and regulatory agencies. She also maintained a strong relationship with the accounting firm and took the lead in preparing for the audit. Duhon tackled numerous projects including creating and documenting workflows, a month end close process, and standard operating procedures for the organization.
  • From 2002-2015, Ms. Duhon had progressive career growth from Accounting Manager to VP of Finance at a medical service organization. During her time there she played a vital role in the success of the organization as the finance team grew from four employees to ten and revenues grew from $39M to $86M. She managed all financial management functions, from financial reporting to restricted funds and international transactions. She established strong working relationships with the auditing firm and was the lead in preparing for the audit each year and the tax return for multiple years.  She was the project leader in the development and implementation of a custom-designed inventory management system for a $4.2M inventory and the integration of the financial and development databases. She automated and streamlined the monthly financial reporting package, resulting in 50% time savings for completion and created a process for forecasting.
  • From 2005-2008, Ms. Duhon was the accounting manager for Gymstrada Parents Association. The primary source of funding for the organization’s gross revenue of $3.7M was from gaming activities. As one of two employees, she was responsible for all financial aspects of the organization, including cash management, financial reporting, budgeting and cash forecasting.
  • From 2000-2002, Ms. Duhon was an auditor for a “Big Four” accounting firm in Raleigh, NC. She served clients in numerous industries ranging from distribution, manufacturing, media, not-for-profit, food and hospitality, retail, and health services. Her clients included small businesses, middle market and emerging growth companies.
