As a strategic and operationally focused financial executive with over 30 years of experience, Bob Cotton has provided leadership to companies ranging from carve-out/start-ups to organizations with international operations. Mr. Cotton started his career at a global white goods manufacturer and distributor and since has been fully immersed in the software/technology space spanning companies delivering software and professional services to B2B clients spanning IT, business operations, healthcare providers, and finally in the human capital space. Mr. Cotton has significant experience as a senior finance leader and CFO as well as financial management and operations consultancy with SMB sized venture backed and private equity owned companies, including acquisition through exit. In addition to his accounting and finance expertise, he has managed teams responsible for information technology, human resources, legal/contract support, and operations.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. Cotton attended the University of Maryland where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and Accounting and obtained his MBA from Duquesne University.

Career Timeline

• Joined Rankin McKenzie as Partner in 2024.
• 2019-2023: CFO of Cadient, LLC, a private equity owned human resource management SaaS company. Served as executive team leader in the sale of the company.
• 2017-2019: CFO of Orthus Health, LLC (now Wellworks For You), a private equity owned health analytics and services company.
• 2010-2017: Controller of the ambulatory business unit of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions (now Veradigm), a public global company focused on delivering technology and services to the healthcare eco-system.
• 2009-2010: Financial consultant to various start-up and small expanding technology companies.
• 2006-2008: Global Finance Director of BMC Software, a multinational technology and services company. As a key executive, he led the finance team through a period of transition preparing the company for higher levels of growth.
• 2005-2006: Director of Corporate FP&A of Tekelec (now a part of Oracle Communications Solutions).
• 1996-2005: Served in several roles within SAS Institute including Business Unit Controller of Channels & Alliances, Business Director of Corporate Development and Manager of Strategic Licensing & Business Development.
• 1993-1995: Served in various business analysis, reporting and management positions with Legent Corporation (acquired by Computer Associates).
• 1989-1993: Mr. Cotton began his career with WCI International, a US-based subsidiary of Electrolux AB in Pittsburgh, PA
